Brandi Z. Murrain specializes in complex civil litigation across both state and federal courts, with an emphasis on healthcare. She represents individuals and companies in False Claims Act litigation, commercial disputes, RICO, and white-collar criminal cases. Brandi is proficient in guiding clients through government investigations, Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement audits and appeals, Board investigations, and peer-review assessments. She offers legal counsel and supports internal investigations to ensure compliance and mitigate the risk of future investigations. Brandi’s expertise extends to privacy matters, including HIPAA compliance and guiding clients through cybersecurity incidents, as well as subsequent investigations and litigation. Brandi frequently defends healthcare providers and practices who treat patients involved in personal injury lawsuits. Beyond healthcare, Brandi advises employers navigating labor and employment investigations and litigation.

Prior to joining Chilivis Grubman, Brandi represented clients in a broad spectrum of matters, including toxic torts, mass torts, product liability, and labor and employment. She has considerable experience in taking and defending depositions, briefing and arguing dispositive motions, and crafting successful litigation strategies.

Brandi’s legal career began as a prosecutor in the second largest prosecutor’s office in the United States. As a Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney, she honed her trial skills by serving as first chair in over sixty bench trials and seven jury trials. She also gained invaluable insights into the judicial decision-making process while serving as a Judicial Extern for The Honorable John Robert Blakey in the Northern District of Illinois, where she analyzed legal arguments, conducted research, and drafted judicial opinions.

Brandi combines her expertise with a friendly demeanor which has given her a reputation for being approachable and easy to work with. Outside of her professional life, Brandi is a devoted wife and mother of two. She is an avid runner and a self-proclaimed coffee connoisseur.
