According to a recent study by IBM, the average cost of a data breach in the United States is over $8 million, a 130 percent increase over 14 years.  Not surprisingly, smaller organizations had higher costs relative to their size than larger organizations. While organizations of more than 25,000 employees averaged $204 per employee, organizations between 500 and 1,000 employees had an average cost of over $3,500 per employee.
